Welding

Safety:  A priority in the workshop along with discipline. A high emphasis on discipline. All aspects related to safety and safety equipment.

TOOLS:  They the pupil/ learner will learn their correct uses in the workshop environment .How to apply them correctly to particular facets of welding.

MACHINES:  They study the working principals in the workshop, operation of machines and their safe keeping (maintenance) this being in accordance to particular work/ facet being done and applications thereof.

MAINTENANCE:  Here we try to keep maintenance in house, to the best of our knowledge and capabilities. Keeping our learners open minded and to learn something different. Learn to maintain and run the workshop correctly and safely, that they might one day also have a workshop of their own. At least have a varied knowledge of how to maintain a working inviroment in the steel industry.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: The learner will study and apply what is learnt in theory to the workshop inviroment. Continuous ongoing evaluations.

MACHINES:  Working procedures, their correct use and application in the workshop. Ongoing continuous evaluation.

PROPERTIES OF METALS:  Constituents of all the types of metals uncounted in the steel industry and their applications in the industrial inviroment. e.g.  The spark test and being able to differentiate between the types of metals available.

WELDING SYMBOLS: All related symbols in welding theory and practical applications. The learner/pupil must know how to apply these welding symbols to every day welding applications and be literate in their application (the reading of drawings)

TOOLS: In theory, study what materials are used to manufacture them. The correct applications of the various tools used in welding/boiler making industrial workshops.

M.M.A : ( Manual Metal Arc) The use of arc welding rods, the various arc welding rod types and the various techniques of arc welding ( fault finding and solutions to problematic materials, preparation, correct set-up of machines A.C. /D.C. etc.)

M.I.G: (METAL INERT GAS) the wire feed machines and various inert gases, the techniques of welding with gas (fault finding and solutions, correct set-up of the different types of M.I.G. machines etc.

GAS WELDING APPARATUS: (oxy-acetylene) Oxygen-acetylene gas welding plant. Applications in the steel industry. Heating torches, gas cutting, various techniques of gas welding. Set-up and fault finding.

LEARNERS: Learners will engage in small projects/facets. Braais, burglar gates, trailers small steel constructions etc., under strict supervision and guidance of our qualified (artisan) teachers (Ongoing evaluations) outside work is taken on, within reason, to enhance and allow for more in house training of our learners. This allows the learner to get the feel, so to say what will be expected of them, when they leave school and enter the working world.
